Eleven-Faced Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara (十一面千手观音)

Ekādaśamukha (Eleven-Faced) Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva is depicted with various forms, including those with four arms, eight arms, or even a thousand arms, similar to the Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes form. The Bodhisattva's physical forms vary slightly. The Eleven-Faced, Thousand-Hand Guanyin, for instance, typically has eight arms.

The three types of faces—serene, compassionate/gentle , and wrathful —generally convey the following meanings:

·         The wrathful aspect tames malevolent beings.

·         The compassionate/gentle aspect guides benevolent beings.

·         The serene aspect leads those whose good roots have matured to achieve transcendent (worldly-transcending) virtues.
